Examinations
When your pet is ill, you want answers quickly. Examinations help us identify the cause of symptoms and reach an accurate diagnosis.
To do this, we combine a thorough clinical examination with additional diagnostics whenever needed. This allows us to recognise health problems faster and treat them more effectively.
From laboratory testing and blood pressure measurements to radiography and ultrasound: we have a range of diagnostic methods to assess your pet's health as accurately as possible.
Types of examinations
When your pet is ill, you want to know what's wrong as quickly as possible. At Iscavets Veterinary Practice, you can come to us for both preventive healthcare and the diagnosis and treatment of illness. Thanks to our broad experience and particular interest in areas such as behaviour and dermatology, we look at every health problem from different angles.
An accurate diagnosis always starts with a thorough conversation and a comprehensive clinical examination. We listen carefully to your observations as an owner and examine your pet thoroughly to determine the cause of the symptoms.
Thanks to our ongoing training and modern practice equipment, we can carry out many examinations directly at the practice. We have equipment for blood testing, ultrasound and radiography, among other things. This means that, in many cases, we can reach a diagnosis quickly without the need for a referral.
For certain conditions, such as skin problems, we take a particularly thorough approach. By investigating symptoms systematically, we can often pinpoint the underlying cause more precisely and treat it more effectively.
When specialised examinations or treatments are advisable, we work with a carefully selected network of fellow veterinarians and specialists. This ensures your pet receives the most suitable care, even when a referral proves necessary.
Our goal is always the same: to reach an accurate diagnosis and give your pet the right care as quickly as possible.
Some health problems cannot be identified through a clinical examination alone. Medical imaging allows us to look inside your pet's body and accurately assess organs, bones, teeth and other structures.
Depending on the symptoms and the suspected condition, we use various techniques, such as ultrasound and digital radiography. This allows us to detect many health problems faster and treat them more effectively.
Not all health problems are visible during a clinical examination. Laboratory testing helps us further assess your pet's body and detect underlying conditions.
Depending on the symptoms, we can test various samples, such as blood, urine, faeces, skin or tissue samples. These tests often provide valuable information and help us reach an accurate diagnosis, monitor a treatment, or detect health problems at an early stage.
Both high and low blood pressure can have serious consequences for your pet's health. Low blood pressure can reduce blood flow to important organs, such as the kidneys. High blood pressure, in turn, can damage various organs, including the kidneys, and can even lead to sudden blindness, particularly in cats.
That's why, in certain situations, blood pressure measurement is an important part of diagnostic examinations and patient follow-up.
At our practice, we measure blood pressure using a Doppler device, considered the gold standard for blood pressure measurement in pets. During surgery, we use an oscillometric device, which checks blood pressure automatically at regular intervals.

Eye problems are common in pets and can have various causes. Eye pressure measurement is an important test for detecting certain eye conditions and starting targeted treatment.
Eye pressure can be either too low or too high. Low eye pressure can occur, for example, with inflammation of the iris. High eye pressure is often seen with glaucoma. Both conditions can cause serious damage to the eye and, if not detected and treated in time, can lead to permanent loss of vision or even the eye itself.
At our practice, we measure eye pressure with the TonoVet®, a modern tonometer specially developed for use in pets. This measurement is fast, reliable and painless, allowing us to accurately assess eye pressure within minutes.
